What is Public Liability
Insurance and why do I need it?

Public liability insurance covers your business if someone is injured in some way, or if you damage a customers or member of the public’s property, when carrying out work. It is a common insurance that is taken out by individuals, small businesses, and larger organisations alike.

While public liability insurance is not a legal requirement, it should be considered essential if you work on or in property, whether that be in a client’s home or business premises, or if you interact with the public.

What is Employers’ Liability
Insurance and why do I need it?

Employers’ liability insurance protects your business against the cost of compensation claims arising from employee illness or injury, sustained as a result of their work for you.

In the UK, if you have one employee or more, including any labour-only subcontractors, it is a requirement by law to have an employers’ liability insurance policy in place, however certain types of businesses are exempt – for example non-limited family businesses.

The legal minimum level of cover for an employers’ liability insurance policy is £5 million, although most insurers provide a higher level of cover of £10 million as standard.
